Yesterday I used the term “shoulder girdle” in reference to a client’s posture. My client responded, “Why do they call it a girdle? Isn’t that one of those medieval type things that sucks your waist in?”

Yes, the word girdle can refer to an article of dress encircling the body usually at the waist; the keyword being encircling. A girdle in general is something that encircles or confines. Your shoulder blades and collarbones, aka: your shoulder girdle, encircle your skeleton and actually confine your arms to your body.

This week we’ll explore how your girdles (you have more than one!) work together to help you feel your whole body in motion.

Monday 6/13 at 12PM with Destinie:
Last week we explored the concept of differentiation in the upper body, learning how to move the shoulder joint independently and in service of the spine. This week, we’ll work on differentiating through the lower body, including the pelvic girdle. You may feel that transform your shoulder girdle; join us to find out!

Friday 5/17 at 12PM with Nicole:
Functional movement begins with a shared language, and an understanding of basic directional anatomy to help you recreate shapes. Let’s explore how Pilates exercises are just “daily shapes,” in disguise, meant to help you improve your biomechanics.

Can’t make it live? Sign up anyways and we’ll send you a recording!
