Anyone else more aware of their head since Nicole’s class last Monday? Destinie really noticed her head drifting forward while driving and was able to correct that just by thinking about capital flexion (aka skull roll). Thanks Nicole!
Our month of transition-fun continues with a question–how do we pick up our legs?
Keegan likes to tell the story of learning single-leg circle where her teacher asked, “Keegan, if you’re not going to control your leg, then who will?”
But where does learning to control a leg start? Well, differentiation which is your brain's ability to tell your body to move in a specific way and your body successfully complies. If you cannot differentiate between your leg and your pelvis or your leg and your back, then you can’t very well go about controlling your leg! Sometimes, even the ribs like to be legs.
Check out this week’s class themes to learn how to pick up your legs. This is a profound skill for anyone experiencing low back pain and anyone who want to optimize their core strength.

What does it mean to pick up a leg? It can be challenging to tell if you’ve done it. Sometimes, clarity comes in the form of noticing what hasn’t happened instead of what has. Today’s class starts with practicing one of my favorite “pre-pilates” fundamental skills–the knee fold–and progresses into an exploration of how this skill shows up over and over again throughout the Pilates mat repertoire. Prop: a full-size towel.

Grab Bag! Last week Destinie got requests for tight hips and stiff necks! Are they related? You bet they are. What other relationships do you want to explore? Email Destinie or shout 'em out before class!
