A new month means a new theme for Monday 12PM mat class!
Last month we had fun with planes of movement. But what connects one movement to another, one exercise to another? Transitions. Transitions are the in-between moments that matter; they help us find flow, a Pilates principle, by keeping us moving from one exercise to the next. Finding flow builds efficiency into our Pilates practice which helps us “stay in it” for longer, allowing our nervous system and muscles to build strength and stamina.
Nicole transitions us from January to February with a focus on how to move our heads. Check out this week’s class themes:
Monday, February 6th @ 12PM with Nicole:
Did you know the average head weighs 11 pounds? Because everything-connects-to- everything-else our core muscles play an essential role in balancing our heads upon the spine (see image below). In order to effectively control our heads, without a compressive “crunchy” feeling in our spines, we look to our neck abs, and beyond to the ribcage and pelvis for support.
We’ll spend the first 10 mins getting neurofascial with a head massage, diaphragm stretch and breath exercise to get our core prepped for action. We’ll then move through the Classical repertoire with the focus on how to use the whole spine to support and move our heads.
Wednesday, February 8th @ 8AM with Destinie:
Grab Bag! The theme for this class depends on the requests that Destinie receives before the class starts. Don’t be shy; work those voice muscles!
