A new month means a new theme and there’s no better way to honor the man behind the work than with an entire month dedicated to ANIMALS.
That’s right, Joseph Pilates drew inspiration from the natural world, particularly the movement patterns and postures of animals. Observing cats, birds, and other creatures in their natural environments, Joe noticed the efficiency and grace with which they moved.
He was particularly fascinated by the effortless power and flexibility exhibited by such animals. These observations led him to develop exercises that aimed to capture the natural alignment and fluidity he saw in them.
By studying their instinctual movements, such as stretching upon waking or maintaining core stability while in motion, Pilates incorporated these principles into his own method, encouraging practitioners to cultivate a similarly intuitive sense of their own bodies. And if you’ve been with Pilates in Common for some time, you know we are all about developing that intuitive sense of the body!
So join us this month to find the animals that live inside of you!
CLASS THEMES
Monday, September 4th @ 12pm with Mollie:
We’ll be kicking our animal themed month off with the elephant. This magnificent creature has a terrific sense of balance partially due to its two (trunk and tail!) additional “limbs”. One of the main lessons we can draw from the elephant is how to use our body weight to our advantage: how to trust our limbs and create lightness through oppositional energy.
Wednesday, September 6th @ 8AM:
No class this week, so sign up for Monday! Can’t make Monday’s class live? Anyone who signs up gets the recording automatically.
DEEP DIVE
Destinie shows us her inner cat! Join her to learn three cat stretches that you can add before Pilates or right after a cat nap.
