Group classes are more than just workouts; they're a way to build better habits. According to Philosopher Tamar Gendler, it’s easier to do things when you surround yourself with people with similar values. The easier it is to do a certain thing, the more likely it develops into a habit. If you're curious about how good habits can help you navigate life, check out this podcast with Tamar.

What about bad habits within good ones? Often, we fall into what we call "movement habits." You might attend class weekly, yet allow your body to move in its usual, comfortable patterns. This can hinder your progress. So what’s a mover to do if showing up “isn’t” enough?

First, you are enough, full stop. The point we are trying to make is that when we are curious and consistent we experience movement differently. Not as good vs. bad but as detectives uncovering cues of preferred movement habits that your central nervous system defaulted to!

That's precisely why we regularly publish blog posts, deep dive into anatomy in our newsletters, and emphasize certain concepts in class repeatedly. We want to help you find your movement clues and encourage you to develop new, more beneficial ways of subconsciously moving.

Check out this week's Blog section to learn how to effectively use your abdominals, potentially breaking the habit of resting in flexion!

With that, here are this week’s class themes.

DEEP DIVE

We teach Pilates with a theme (i.e. a movement concept to think about). Why?

Thinking about your movements helps you form new, more efficient patterns. It's about breaking free from those old, unhelpful movement habits. Click the pic below to check out our latest blog post about the abdominals. Give it a read, and see if you notice a difference in Monday's class!
